Watering

It isn't necessary to regularly water all plants during the summer months, established plants will only require watering during dry spells. It is important however, that anything planted last autumn or this year will need regular watering until established.

Here in the NE of Scotland, we're fortunate not to be on the receiving end of the regular drought conditions suffered further south but it's still important to keep a close eye on your plants. During warm weather periods, plants growing in containers and hanging baskets will appreciate daily watering. A good long soak will yield better results than the little-and-often approach. Avoid watering during the hottest periods of the day - this limits any scorching to the leaves and flowers.  Mulching borders will limit the amount of watering required for established plants.
