What can be grown in containers?
Even if you don't have a vast expanse of garden, you can certainly still
make your own perfect space for relaxation and enjoy the fruits of your
labours. Fill your patio or deck space with pots, planters, hanging
baskets and containers - you'd be surprised at what you can grow - even
veggies and fruit bushes! Try tomatoes and basil, bush beans, carrots, physallis and salad plants like lettuce and rocket for example.
Container Gardening - Tips for Success
Allow adequate drainage – ensure there are a sufficient
number of drainage holes in the container. Add a layer of drainage
material to the base of the pot, eg. broken crock, gravel or even the
broken polystyrene material from bedding packs.
Use a good quality compost – obviously this depends of
what’s being planted – but we recommend Levington & Miracle Gro
ranges for all your container gardening needs.
Raise the pot off the ground – this is vital for the winter
months. This ensures the water drains sufficiently and prevents pots
freezing to floor surfaces. Choose from a wide range of feet and plant
stands at the Garden Centre.
