Autumn Lawn Care

Regrettably, there are no quick fixes relating to lawn care, but we advise that a little input into your lawns over the autumn period will reap the rewards next season.

The first stage is to remove the dead grass, moss and other debris that has built up over the past months with a good spring time rake or a lawn scarifier for larger areas.  Then follow this activity by aerating the soil using either an aerator or a good garden fork, especially in areas where the lawn has suffered greater wear and tear.  Next season, the grass will benefit greatly from this activity as the ground will be less compacted and better drained.  The final stage relates to feeding, with a special formula low nitrogen based lawn fertiliser (with our without a moss killer), this gives the grass a final freshen up and gives the grass a healthier colour but simply, it feeds the roots to ensure it copes with the rigours of winter and is able to get off to a flying start next spring.

For those who aim for a perfect lawn, a lawn top dressing applied in the late autumn will ensure the best possible results, but this is not essential.
