Here's a selection of some of the fabulous plants we think are particularly great for this lovely time of the year and particularly for the North East of Scotland.

Rhododendron

Rhododendrons are ideally suited to NE Scotland's acidic soil conditions. Tips for success:
  • dead head thoroughly after flowering to ensure improved new bud development & a better display new year
  • use an ericaceous compost if planting in a container - ensures the plant retains a green, glossy appearance

Ceanothus

Ceanothus is noted for its distinctive blue flowers. Tips for success:
  • position/aspect is the key to success. A real sun lover, it thrives in a bright, well drained position
  • place it carefully as it can experience problems in exposed positions

Magnolia

The Magnolia is a highly prized specimen shrub/tree.  Tips for success:
  • positioning is key, given the NE's climatic conditions - choose a sheltered, sunny position.
  • Raemoir Garden Centre recommend Magnolia stellata - a more robust variety with distinctive white star-like flowers
